Silverjet Ground Transport Arrangements
Silverjet provides an excellent service to help you get to the airport, both for Luton and Newark. This can include arranging chauffeur, private helicopter and collection from the railway station to airport. More information can be found here: Luton or Newark
If you would prefer to arrange your own ground transport, the following information should help.
Luton Airport
Train - A 24 hours service runs from central London to Luton Airport. The Luton Airport Express train service takes only 25 minutes to Luton Airport Parkway station. The terminal is 1.8km from the station and a free shuttle bus service operates.
Train times, details of the shuttle and other information should be obtained from Railtrack - 0845 748 4950. Disable passengers should make arrangements for assistance at least 24 hours prior to travel by contacting the relevent train companies direct.
Newark Airport
Newark Airport is located in New Jersey and is 16 miles from midtown Manhattan. Annually, more than 30 million passengers use Newark Airport.
Getting from EWR to Manhattan (and back):
- Air Train: The Air Train provides a connecting service to NJ Transit and PATH trains which take you into Manhattan. This is often quicker than taking a cab or bus and cheaper too. It currently costs $11.55 one way from Newark Airport to Penn Station. Check the schedule for a timetable of connecting trains. Service is available from 5 a.m. until 2 a.m.
- Taxis: Metered fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location, cost approx $40-55. Taxi Stands are outside of every terminal. For destinations outside of Manhattan, consult the fare guide. There is an additional charge for luggage over 24 inches if the driver handles the bags, and rates are based per car, not per passenger (up to four passengers).
- Car Services: This is a great option to save on waiting in line for the cabs. These can be pre-arranged before travel or can be called when the flight touches down. Larger vans or limos can be arranged for when groups of more than 4 are ravelling together.
- Private Shuttles: Several companies offer shuttles to Manhattan, including:
- Newark Liberty Airport Express : Available from 4:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m., these shuttles leave every 15-30 minutes for midtown Manhattan and every 2 hours to downtown Manhattan (from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.). One-way fare is $13, but you can save by buying roundtrip tickets, as they are $22. One free child under 16 is included in the fare. You can choose to disembark at Grand Central, Port Authority or Penn Station, in addition to midtown hotels. The ride takes about ah hour. Return schedules and more information are available on their website.
- Super Shuttle: Available 24 hours a day, this shuttle provides door to door service for your party. Fares are $15 - $19, depending on destination. No reservations are required to get from the airport to your destination, but they are required for your return trip to the airport. Consult their website or call 1-800-258-3826 for more information.
- Rental Cars: Cars are available at the rental desks at the terminals. However, pre-booking will often work out cheaper. For more complete information about Newark Airport, consult their official website
